SECT Computer Training Survey

Jennifer Muter announced that the computer survey will be released on Friday, February 11. Maggie wrote an article for Library Matters and will follow up with an email to staff with a link to the survey. The survey runs until February 25. SECT members should encourage their colleagues to complete the survey.

Further Discussion on the OCDA

Everyone in the library received a memo from Charles with the executive summary and table of contents of the OCDA report. Maggie encouraged everyone to attend one of the all-staff meetings on the OCDA (to be held Feb. 10, 10-11:30 and Feb. 22, 2:30-4). We will put a discussion of the OCDA on the agenda for March. SECT members should read the report (available online), attend an all-staff meeting, and try to get reactions from colleagues. The Library hopes to contract with Paul Hanges to work in small groups on OCDA issues.

Update on the Spring 2005 Program

Maggie passed out a flyer with upcoming professional development activities. Sexual Harassment Prevention Program and Tapping Creativity (with Maureen Sullivan) have been scheduled. The Sexual Harassment program is being offered later in the afternoon to accommodate staff with later schedules. Items to be scheduled include Safety and Security Workshop and Introduction to Microsoft Publisher. Working with Difficult People, a 6-hour workshop to be completed in two days, will be scheduled in late April or early May. Presentations Skills may be scheduled in the summer. Digital Reference Program: The Future of Reference is a peer training panel session that is scheduled for April.

Discussion about Upcoming Peer Training Sessions

Bob shared email messages about upcoming peer training sessions including one on Science Direct (offered by Elsivier), one on chat reference (offered by Laura Wrubel), one on creating persistent links (offered by Gretchen Hanson), and one on bringing Library expertise into the Course Management setting (offered by Gretchen Hanson). As SECT members hear about training from their colleagues, they should refer trainers to Maggie or SECT to check scheduling. Bob will check with branch libraries for other peer training needs.

Round Robin

  • Johnnie Love: Attended the Provost Conservations on Diversity, Democracy, and Higher Education. She and Otis Chadley created a bibliography to accompany speaker Sheryll Cashen’s talk. The bibliography was well received and will be posted on the diversity website. She will create a bibliography for each Provost Conservations program.
  • Jennifer Hatleberg: ILT has results from a staff needs survey; needs include how to motivate students and programs for spring and summer.
  • Maggie Saponaro: Distributed copies of the updated Learning Curriculum document as prework for the March SECT meeting. She also distributed new color copies of Corporate Time Web Client and Desktop Client Overviews. The train-the-trainers group has been added to the SECT reflector.
