Update on Outcomes Based Evaluation (OBE) Survey

Maggie shared an update on the status of the OBE evaluations. Seven surveys have been sent to participants and there are two additional surveys to be emailed. The return rate is 44% to date. The OBE survey was advertised in a Library Matters article to let staff know that they will receive a six-month follow-up survey. Jenny Kinniff is tabulating the data for two of the survey questions: “Are there other skills you wished had been taught at this workshop?” and “What other topics would you like to see Staff Learning and Development offer?” Data for the first question is shared with the presenter of the specific workshop and the second question data will be used by Staff Learning to help identify future training offerings.

Marketing Learning Curriculum Activities

Outcome: Sue Koutsky facilitated the team’s discussion about marketing. Members started by identifying characteristics about non-users. [See the discussion notes at the end of the minutes.]

Round Robin

  • Jenny reported that the Desktop Services Committee is ready to offer Desktop Driver’s Ed to staff. The training will cover how to be a good computer user. The Desktop Services Committee would like to discuss whether this training becomes part of orientation, the Learning Curriculum or the responsibility of another group. Jenny will provide a copy of the power point slides for the next SECT meeting.
  • It was suggested that perhaps this training could be developed into a self-paced online course.
  • Allan commented that he was not sure who would be attending from SCOTT. He was encouraged to think about what an hour commitment means, which is what other members of SECT do.
  • Sue Koutsky shared that TSD is getting ready to launch continuing resources training, which will be offered in a large group setting, a small group setting or one-on-one. She will share the list of dates so that other offerings are not scheduled at the same time.
  • Johnnie updated the team on the PRD process. She is checking documentation to see that staff have included the Organizational Citizenship Expectations (OCE). Staff will be notified if the OCE’s are missing.

April 11, 2006 Agenda

Outcome: Two topics were identified: marketing of the Learning Curriculum and Desktop Drivers Ed.

May Meeting: (date to be determined) 1:00 - 2:00, MCK 7121

Marketing of the Learning Curriculum
[SECT Meeting, March 14, 2006]

OIT is looking into technology that would allow groups to broadcast a video conference plus show a power point presentation (delayed asynchronous broadcast for multiple people at different sites).

Upper and middle management need to send the message to staff that training and learning is important. It is important that this message trickle down.
