Staff Education Coordinating Team (SECT) Minutes for April 12, 2005Present: Sue Baughman, Joyce Chestnut, Jenny Hatleberg (Notetaker), Bob Kackley, Sue Koutsky, Jennifer Muter, Ambika Sankaran, Maggie Saponaro (Facilitator), Jane Williams (Timekeeper) Adjustments to AgendaMaggie would like to add two items, and will discuss them during the Round Robin SECT Computer Training SurveyJennifer shared the draft of the Final Report for the Computer Training Survey conducted this winter. A Plan for the Future has been added to include two new classes (Intermediate Excel and MS Publisher), scheduled for April 2005. This summer, Staff Learning & Development (SLD) will work with ITD to develop new classes based on what was learned from the survey. They will prioritize the top ten training needs, and will try to provide classes in these areas by the end of the year. Training for areas lower on the list will still be developed (suggestion: create online tutorials) Sharing the results of the survey:
Learning Curriculum Attendance ReportJennifer shared a report that she has been working on for SLD. The data shows the distribution of staff attendance at SLD classes between early 2002- January 2005, by employee status (e.g., librarian, staff, student) and division. The report will be shared with LEC on May 17th, but SECT members are encouraged to share with division managers before then. If individual managers would like to see a breakdown of librarian and staff attendance within their division, they can request this information. Jennifer could attend managers’ meetings to present report findings. Co-sponsorship of activities with Staff LearningIn the past, SLD has “unofficially” co-sponsored library training sessions that have been developed by other divisions. Recently, there have been some over-scheduled and competing workshops. It would be helpful to have a more official policy that allows SLD to help with logistics and provide input on the structure and content of workshops. On-the-job training and peer training offered to a specific group can continue to be separate from SLD, but sessions offered to all library staff should be officially co-sponsored. One example is the Presentation Skills workshop, developed by SLD and User Education Services. Outcomes: Jane will draft a new policy statement, and will share with SLD and SECT by the May 17th LEC meeting. It will then be publicized library-wide. Learning Curriculum Document ReviewThe Learning Curriculum group has updated this document to reflect staff learning programs that have ceased, changed, or been added. They will continue to add and update classes as needed. Ambika and Maggie will post the revised document on the Learning Curriculum web page. Round Robin
