Update on Fall Programs

Leader: Maggie S.

Maggie briefed us on how the Fall Semester Learning Curriculum programs were going and how many were left still. Please check this URL for more information on and registration for November as well as December 2005 classes: http://www.lib.umd.edu/groups/learning/calendars/calnov05.html.

Outcomes

The Thunderbird E-Mail (Mozilla) classes have waiting lists and have been so popular, that there will be a repeat class in January before the required 1/25/06 deadline to migrate from Netscape Mail over to Thunderbird for UM Library Staff.

Update on Staff Training Surveys

Leader: Maggie S.

Last month, SECT reviewed a copy of the six-month follow-up survey questions as part of the Learning Curriculum’s Outcomes Based Evaluation process. The sample questions were sent to Irma Dillon and the Library Assessment Review Committee (LARC) for review, and they were accepted with minor revisions.

Outcomes

A template survey and cover letter will be drafted by Staff Learning in the coming weeks and shared with SECT at an upcoming meeting. The first survey will be sent in mid-January, 2006.

Update on Staff Attendance Database

Leader: Jennifer Tate

Jennifer is in the final stages of development of a database that would track staff member attendance for all SECT programs on a calendar basis for the benefit of individual library staff members as well as division leaders.

Outcomes

Jennifer will have this database completed by the middle of December. Reports will be made available to individuals upon request, and a year-end summary will be sent to division directors.

Structuring Computer Training

Leader: Jane W.

There was a discussion about having Learning Curriculum computer training classes given in the future more along the lines of function or by job application as opposed to being tool based as it is now, relatively speaking.

Outcomes

It was agreed to keep it tool based, for the time being; but include an additional question regarding the specific use of computer training when the next computer training survey is developed in Fall 2007.
