Approval of Meeting Minutes for November Meeting

Minutes from the November meeting were approved.

Workshop on Generational Differences

Jennifer Tate and Jane Williams reported on the 3-hour workshop on generational differences that they attended on campus. They distributed the handout “Understanding Different Generations.” The workshop included different activities where participants interacted with members of different generations. The workshop was lead by a good instructor, Gloria Norman, and included information on general interpersonal communications and dealing with differences (not just generational) in the workplace. Maggie will check with campus HR to see the feedback from the workshop. This may be a workshop that SECT would want to co-sponsor with the Diversity Committee. SECT will decide whether or not to put forth this workshop after seeing workshop feedback and discussing further if it would meet our needs.

Six-Month Survey Update

Prework for this topic showed the final six-month survey and email notices that will serve as reminders. Reminders will go to everyone, even if they already filled out the survey. Jennifer and Maggie reported that the first six-month survey will be distributed in January.

Goodwill Luncheon

Johnnie reported that the Goodwill Luncheon had a good turnout, but not all the new people came. It was a fun celebration of UM’s 150th birthday. To get more new people attending, it was suggested that Dean Lowry or the Personnel Office send special invitations to all the new people. The date of the luncheon should be planned well in advance when there is less likelihood of running into scheduled meetings.

2006 Meeting Schedule

We will continue our meeting schedule of the second Tuesday of the month, 1:00-2:00. Eiko will let SECT know who the SCOTT (Special Collections Orientation and Training Team) representative will be.

Spring Semester Learning Curriculum Update

Maggie passed out a new flyer with the Learning Curriculum class schedule and asked that SECT members distribute flyers to their constituents. The Thunderbird classes are the last ones that will be offered before the migration. The Facilitator’s Team is doing a series of courses, beginning with “Generating and Organizing Ideas.”

In 2005, the Learning Curriculum offered 44 programs (24 titles), 16 of which were new. 8 out of 10 of the most asked-for computer classes were offered. In all, 493 people attended Learning Curriculum programs in 2005. Kudos to Maggie and the LC team!

Participants in Learning Curriculum programs can ask for a list of programs in which they participated. SECT will discuss marketing and publicizing strategies for LC programs at the next meeting.
