Guides to Information Resources

Last revised: July 2009

Architecture Resources Gateway

This guide is designed to get you thinking about the various aspects of the architecture curriculum at the University of Maryland, the scope of the field of architecture, and where and how to find information on a variety of topics.

Each subject link from the Table of Contents will take you to a short guide on resources for that topic, including: books, names of selected journals that are pertinent to the subject, suggested subject headings to use while researching, and web resources.

These guides are deliberately short, and intended to give an overview or a sense of where to begin your exploration of a topic or field; the books and sources listed represent only the tip of the iceberg. Sources have been chosen for their general importance to the field and for currency. Please also keep in mind that there may be more extensive guides available elsewhere - remember to explore the libraries' research guides by subject discipline.

Good research is complicated, especially in the digital and academic environments. No guide can begin to cover all the sources available, so Ask a Librarian when you need more information. Contact the subject area specialists for more information or to design a strategic and specific research plan: lotis@umd.edu, 301-405-9260 or pcossard@umd.edu, 301-405-6316.

This guide was authored by Kim Detterbeck and Lara Otis.
