Architecture Resources Gateway - Building Materials and Technology

Concepts: Natural and man-made materials; building technologies; regulations; integration of information technology into buildings.

What material will best suit the design of a building, both interior and exterior? What are the specifications and costs of using a particular material? Where can one get them? The sources here will help answer these kinds of questions.

arrow This guide functions as an independent entity in a series designed for the new and returning architecture researcher. Consult the entire series at Architecture Resources Gateway.

Journals to Browse

These journals deal with aspects of architectural technology, and several years' worth or more can be found in the libraries. Go to the low black shelves in the center of the library for current issues (lift up the shelf to see back issues for approximately one year), and to the periodical stack shelves to the right of the circulation desk for older issues. Check the journals tab in Research Port to see if the library has full-text online access.

Strategic Research

Good research is complicated, especially in the digital and academic environments. No guide can begin to cover all the sources available, so Ask a Librarian when you need more information. Contact the subject area specialists for more information or to design a strategic and specific research plan: lotis@umd.edu, 301-405-9260 or pcossard@umd.edu, 301-405-6316.
