Wireless Connection
- Requirement: You must be a student, faculty or staff member at the University of Maryland
- Configure your laptop to connect to the University's wireless network by starting at www.oit.umd.edu/nts/noc/wireless/connect.html
Note:
- See map for access to the wireless network in the Libraries.
- Once you are set up, login each time using your University Directory I.D. and password. You will need to authenticate or login every day, if your laptop is inactive for an hour, and if your laptop your laptop goes into sleep mode.

Wireless Printing to Library Printers
- Requirement: You must be a student, faculty or staff member at the University of Maryland.
- Once you have configured your laptop to connect to the University's wireless network (see above) follow the directions at: www.lib.umd.edu/PUBSERV/printing/personal.html
This page explains how to use the Libraries' print system to send print jobs from non-library computers, running Windows operating systems (Windows XP, 2000, 95, 98, 98 second edition, 98 Plus, etc.), to any library printer, anywhere on the campus network (i.e. department, dorm room computers, etc.).
Ethernet Connection
- Requirement: You must be a student, faculty or staff member at the University of Maryland. Students, faculty and staff will need to purchase an Ethernet card at an electronics store or at the University Bookstore. You must register the hardware address found on the Ethernet card at: register.net.umd.edu/Commuter/index.html
- Configure your laptop at: www.noc.umd.edu/open_wallplate.html
- At McKeldin Library, refer to the * symbol on the floor map to find the Ethernet (NIC) Connections. At those specific locations, Ethernet jacks are marked by a green sign that reads LAPTOP ETHERNET / DHCP JACK. Electrical outlets are located nearby.
- At other campus libraries speak to the staff at the Information Desk to find Ethernet jack locations.
Guest Access
- Library staff do not sponsor Guest Wireless Accounts. If you do not have a faculty sponsor, use the public computers available in all library locations. Other University staff may provide guest access; see: www.oit.umd.edu/nts/noc/wireless/guestaccess.html
