Digitization Projects Assistant

The Manager of the Digital Conversion and Media Reformatting Department (DCMR) at the University of Maryland Libraries seeks one motivated individual to work 10-20 hours/week from April-August 2015, with the potential for continuation as funding allows, as a Digitization Projects Assistant.

This position will assist the Manager, DCMR with general and project planning and scheduling activities. Working with the Manager, DCMR, librarians, archivists, curators, and staff across the Libraries, this person will prepare materials for digitization by vendors including preparing metadata spreadsheets and item estimates, shipment manifests, packing collection materials, and other tasks as needed to prepare shipments for vendor digitization. They may also be required to complete quality assurance of files upon receipt from the vendor under the direction of the Digital Librarian.

Candidates must be highly organized, able to work independently, and be extremely comfortable with a flexible work environment (roving between departments as work is needed on different projects). Candidates who demonstrate understanding of file management processes, cataloging and metadata standards, expertise with Microsoft Excel, and good mathematic skills will be given preference. Experience with special collections materials such as correspondence, rare books, photographs, maps, and legacy audiovisual formats is highly desirable.

The pay rate is $10.50 per hour. This is an hourly position only. There are no health, tuition, retirement, or vacation benefits. Applicants must be enrolled at the College Park campus.

To apply, please send a cover letter, resume, and a list of three references to Robin Pike at rpike@umd.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately.
