Maria Grinberg was born in Russia in 1908. She studied in Moscow with Igumnov and went on to a distinguished career in performing and teaching. Grinberg's repertoire was extensive and it included the 32 Beethoven sonatas, all of which she recorded for Melodiya. She died in 1979.
