Libraries of Katherine Anne Porter and Djuna BarnesThe University of Maryland Libraries house the largest and most important collections of correspondence and manuscripts for the important twentieth-century American writers, Katherine Anne Porter and Djuna Barnes. Among the important holdings of the Libraries are the personal libraries of these two authors. Although most of these books are fully cataloged and appear in the Libraries' on-line catalog, they form part of the rare book holdings of Marylandia and Rare Books. Books from these collections are available to the public in the Maryland Room. Their use is governed by the "Guidelines for Use of Rare Books/Special Collections" with the exception that patrons may not themselves make photocopies from any of the books. Many of the books contain annotations made by Miss Porter or Miss Barnes. These annotations are the intellectual property of the estates of the two authors and are governed by the same copyright laws as the manuscripts and letters in the collections of their papers. Patrons desiring photocopies of pages from Porter or Barnes books must complete and sign a "Photoduplication Work Order." Photocopies will be made by the staff of the Archives and Manuscripts Department for $0.25 per page. |
