Anda Union: The Wind Horse

Photograph of the Anda Union in performance.In support of their album The Wind Horse, Anda Union brings the music of the Mongol tradition to the stage of the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.Members of this world-renowned group describe themselves as music gatherers who dig deep into the musical tradition of their nation, unearthing the forgotten music that forms the basis of their contemporary work: “Our music draws from all the Mongol tribes that Genghis Khan unified. We all have different ethnic backgrounds and we bring these We all have different ethnic backgrounds and we bring these influences into our music. There is a wealth of folk music for us to learn, so our repertoire of songs is like a drop in the ocean.”

Percussive elements and and the haunting and guttural quality of Mongolian throat singing are pervasive in the music of Anda Union's The Wind Horse. The group performs in traditional costume and play Mongolian percussion, wind, and string instruments including the horse-head fiddle (morin khuur.)
