The Reflections from the Keyboard lecture-recital series returns to the stage of the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center for an exploration of the world of pianists and piano music, under the auspices of the International Piano Archives at Maryland (IPAM), Donald Manildi, curator. In a program entitled "The Art of the Uncommon Encore," Donald Manildi offers an array of unusual encore pieces by such composers as Moszkowski, Scriabin, Medins, Godowsky, Poulenc and Saint-Saens, along with enlightening commentary.
For part two of the program, UMD Associate Professor of Music Mayron Tsong will perform Alban Berg's Sonata for Piano, Op. 1 and the challenging North American Ballads by Frederic Rzewski, and provide the audience with insightful remarks and observations on these two works.
