Africa Meets Korea

Mahiri-Fadjimba Keita Edwards and Sebastian Wang, directors with guests Farafina Kan, Chunseung Lee, and Donghoon Kim

Wednesday, December 1, 2010 7:30 pm - Dekelboum Concert Hall

Experience the rhythms of African and Korean percussion at the first-ever joint concert of the UM African Drum Ensemble and and the UM Korean Percussion Ensemble! In a program entitled Africa Meets Korea, The UM African Drum Ensemble performs West African music for djembe drum, dunun drum, 21-string kora and 21-key balafon, while the UM Korean Percussion Ensemble performs an exhilarating contemporary form of Korean percussion music known as Samulnori using an hourglass drum, a barrel drum, a small gong, and a large gong. Learn about these musical traditions and others from around the world in the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library:
