NOI Philharmonic Concert II - Saturday, June 25th, 2011

UMD School of Music: National Orchestral Institute & Festival presents NOI Philharmonic Concert II

Michael Stern, conductor

Saturday, June 25, 2011 8:00 pm - Dekelboum Concert Hall

Now in its 24th season, the National Orchestral Institute & Festival has helped nurture an entire generation of American orchestral musicians. Each year a national audition tour selects outstanding performers for this month-long event, a laboratory for shaping the future of chamber and orchestral performance.

Join the NOI Philhamonic for their Concert II of the summer 2011 season, a performance of works by some of the titans of music history. Learn more about these pieces and composers through biographies, recordings, scores, and analytical musicological resources held in the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library:

Richard Wagner - Overture to Rienzi

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 551 ("Jupiter")

Bela Bartok - The Miraculous Mandarin, Op.19

Richard Strauss - Salome's Dance from Salome, Op.54
