SITI Company: Cafe Variations
Thursday, September 20, 2012 Friday, September 21, 2012 8:00 pm - Kogod Theatre
The New York-based SITI Company is an ensemble-based theater company whose three ongoing components are the creation of new work, the training of young theater artists, and a commitment to international collaboration. Most recently seen at the at the Center in Radio MacBeth during the 2010-2011 season, the SITI Company returns with Cafe Variations. Weaving longing, lust, lost love, found love and budding romantic adventure through dance, music and theatre, Cafe Variations brings its audience within the social arena where anything can happen: a cafe.
This new theatre piece based on short plays by Charles Mee features Gershwin songs from The Great American Songbook - familiar tunes that evoke a time, place and way of life. As the Boston Globe described it, Cafe Variations is "unabashedly romantic ... a series of vivid and visceral explorations of life, love and identity [that] cast Gershwin classics in a new light."
