Violin Nicholas MontopoliThe UMD Symphony Orchestra opens its season with Nicholas Montopoli, winner of the 2011 UMSO Concerto Competition, performing Ravel’s exotic and colorful violin showpiece Tzigane.  The program also includes Lutoslawski’s Symphonic Variations, Barber’s First Essay for Orchestra, Op. 12, and Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2, Op. 27.  Learn more about the pieces and composers featured on this program through recordings, scores, film, analysis, and biographical resources held in the collections of the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library:
