Join a Wikipedia edit-a-thon on Mon, Aug 18

The Historic Maryland Newspapers Project will be hosting a daylong Wikipedia edit-a-thon on August 18 in Hornbake Library. The edit-a-thon will feature resources from Chronicling America and from our Special and Digital Collections.

Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon

      Monday, August 18,  9:30 am - 4:00 pm

  Media Room J, Hornbake Library

Morning presentations from:

* Deb Thomas, Program Coordinator for the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) at the Library of Congress
* Leo Zimmerman, Project Manager for Wikipedia Summer of Monuments, Wikimedia DC
* Donald Taylor, Wikipedian in Residence
* Doug McElrath, Manager of Special Collections

The rest of the day will be devoted to research and Wikipedia editing.

All faculty, staff, students, and community members are invited to join us! Come for part of the day or participate remotely. We will be live streaming the morning presentations using Adobe Connect: https://webmeeting.umd.edu/chronicling-america-edit-a-thon/. The meeting will remain active all day if remote participants have questions or want to chat with each other.

Bring your laptop.  No prior experience with Wikipedia is necessary. In fact, we’ll have a tutorial on the basics of editing Wikipedia for those who are new.

For more information and to RSVP, please visit our edit-a-thon’s page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/DC/Chronicling_America).
