Nonprint Media Services Library: Collections

The collections consists of over 36,000 materials. Our almost 18,500 visual programs formats include: 14,000+ videocassettes, 1900 videodiscs and 2200 DVDs. We have over 5800 16mm films, 3700 audio recordings, 7500 slides, and basic audiovisual equipment for loan.

Many of our video materials are available through the Libraries' Digital Collections portal as the Films@UM Collection.

The entire collection is searchable through the University of Maryland Library Catalog.

Nonprint acquires materials from a variety of sources including public television programs, documentaries and independent and world cinema.
Take a look at some of the vendors that Nonprint acquires films from for its collection.

Several of the popular series are: Eyes on the Prize, the complete BBC Shakespeare Plays, the JVC/Smithsonian Video Anthology of World Music and Dance, The Library of African Cinema and selections from various PBS programs including The American Experience, Nova, and POV.

The cinema collections include not only mainstream theatrical film but independent, experimental, avant-garde, and animated films and videos.

Print and electronic audiovisual reference materials complement the media collection.
