Children

During the Occupation, children represented hope -- forming a bridge between the cultures of the Allied Forces and the Japanese. Through organized gift-giving and joint celebrations, Japanese and American children came into contact. These photo opportunities were widely covered in the press, perhaps to overshadow the desperate needs of tens of thousands of war orphans.
