Occupation-period Newspaper and Magazine Database
Created by the Committee for Preserving the Magazines in the Prange Collection, this database can be used to search the Prange magazine collection by magazine title, article title, subtitle, author/editor, publisher, place of publication and censorship information. The Committee is in the process of adding articles and advertisements from 120 newspapers that were members of the Japan Newspaper Association during the early years of the Occupation and that are held in the Prange Collection. Newspapers from the Kyushu region have been completed. Newspapers from the Chugoku Shikoku region are now being input.

To search this catalog for Prange Collection materials, go to "Advanced Search" and select "Prange Collection" in the "Location" field or "Prange" in the "Named Collection" field. One can then do a keyword search by author, editor, title, series name, publisher, year of publication, or CCD number.
Gordon W. Prange Education Book Collection Database
These bibliographic records for 10,000 education-related books and pamphlets in the Prange Collection have been culled from the University of Maryland Libraries’ Online Catalog. Searches can be done in Japanese.
Prange Digital Children's Book Collection
The 8,000 children’s book titles in the Prange Collection are systematically being digitized. As of October 30, 2008, 400 titles are available on this website. Full-text access to these books is limited to the University of Maryland, College Park campus. Access is provided to a thumbnail image of the book cover and to the bibliographic data for the book for off-campus visitors to this site.

Created for use by visitors to the Library only, it can be found in the East Asia Collection on the 4th floor of McKeldin Library and can be used on a self-serve basis.

Between 1985-1989, under an NEH Grant for cataloging education texts, East Asia Collection staff collected education-related materials from
unsorted Prange Collection books. During this period, approximately 10,700 volumes were identified and bibliographic data prepared. The bibliographic
information was entered into the Japanese National Institute for Educational Research (NIER) database in Tokyo.

Justin Williams, Sr. Papers: microfilm index. 4 v.
An index to the microfilm reproduction of The Justin Williams Papers (43 reels). The items in this collection date from 1945 to 1977. The vast majority fall between 1946 and 1952, when Williams was Chief of the Supreme Commander for the Allied Forces’ (SCAP) Legislative Division during the Occupation of Japan. The collection consists of memoranda, journal articles, press analyses, press clippings, correspondence, and Williams’ personal notes that relate to the Occupation of Japan in general and, more specifically, to parliamentary, political, and constitutional change in post World War II Japan.

A list of unpublished censored materials related to Prange education books, such as galley proofs, manuscripts, and materials with deletions or revisions.
Education Book Fragment List [xls]
These fragments, with censorship action taken, are pages from galley proofs of education books. Civil Censorship Detachment (CCD) numbers and romanized titles were written on the fragments, presumably by CCD staff. They have not been matched with published versions of the books.
