Rooms for Reservation and Rent at UM Libraries
Follow these steps to make a request to reserve and rent rooms in UM Libraries:
An event is defined as: a workshop, seminar, training session, lecture, social gathering, or similar
activity. Events that are not collaborations with or sponsored/co-sponsored by UM Libraries, or whose purpose does
not support the Libraries' mission, will not be permitted to use McKeldin Library rooms for free.
STEP 1 - Understand Your Affiliation with UM Libraries
- a Non-Library Group
Defined as: a UM campus department, non-campus group (e.g. for-profit organization), not-for-profit organization, UM
alumni, or library donor. Fees will be charged for use of library rooms by non-library groups.
or...
- a Library Group
Defined as: library staff, or library staff collaborating with or sponsoring/co-sponsoring an event with a UM campus
department, or a non-library group. Fees will be waived for library group events. However, all 3 steps must be followed
(see below) and a Request Form submitted.

STEP 3 - SUBMIT A REQUEST
Arrange a successful event by reading this first before submitting the Request Form (linked
below):
- PLAN AHEAD
UM Libraries requires a minimum of at least 2 weeks advance notice to reserve rooms. Last minute requests cannot be
supported.
- PRIORITY ACCESS and AVAILABILITY
- Priority for use of library instruction labs is given to library staff to conduct instruction activities, meetings, staff
training, etc.
- Library rooms and labs are in high demand, so availability is not guaranteed. Note that the first two months of each
semester (September, October, February, and March), library labs cannot be reserved other than for
library instruction. However, we invite you to request a visit during other times of the year. Consider several possible
dates for your event when you fill out the Request Form.
- DESIGNATE a LIAISON
To ensure consistent communication between your group and UM Libraries, please assign one person to act as your
event liaison throughout the planning process.
