Literature and Rare Books
The Rare Books Collection contains books and pamphlets dating from the 15th century to the present. The scope of the collection is broad, encompassing the humanities, natural history, including botany and agriculture, the history of the printed book, and 20th century literature. Guides point to some strengths in the collection.
Literary Manuscript holdings consist of archival collections that document the lives and work of significant literary figures. Collections include correspondence, papers relating to published and unpublished literary works, publications, photographs, and memorabilia. Areas of significant strength include Katherine Anne Porter, Djuna Barnes, Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven, and Maryland writers.
