Finding Materials @ UMA number of print and online access tools exist to assist researchers in locating special collections materials at the University of Maryland Libraries. Please note that no one source completely describes our holdings. On campus, most primary source materials are found within the departments collectively known as special collections. But primary source materials from other institutions are also on microfilm in McKeldin Library's Periodicals section. A lot, but not all, of these materials are indexed in some way, either on individual department websites, in the Libraries' Catalog or in a database called ArchivesUM. Although the librarians, curators, and archivists at the University of Maryland Libraries endeavor to make descriptions of collections as available as possible, it is always a good idea to ask for help when beginning a research topic. This could save you hours of valuable research time. The University of Maryland Libraries also makes primary source available through access to databases in Research Port. This is an excellent way to find primary source material such as newspapers or statistical data. |
