Using the libraries

  1. Lost in the library? Get oriented & learn to find materials.

  2. Water, in clear spill proof bottles, is permitted in the Library.

  3. Why is there no eating or drinking in the Libraries?

  4. Library closed for weather? Call 301-405-SNOW or check www.umd.edu.

  5. At the library late? Get home safely with NITE Ride bus service.

  6. Get online using your laptop in the libraries.

  7. Terrapin Express: one card that can print, copy, AND buy coffee

  8. Do your scanning, faxing, laminating & more at McKeldin Copy Shop.

  9. Did you know you can print from your computer to a Library printer?

  10. There are 2 ways of paying for printing/copying in the libraries.

  11. Contact a Librarian Subject Specialist for research assistance.

  12. Need a coffee break? Try Footnotes Café at McKeldin Library.

  13. 24-Hour Study is now available at McKeldin Library (UM ID required).

  14. Group study rooms in McKeldin Library are available on the 2nd floor.

  15. FOLIO books are physically larger than STACKS books.

  16. Find book reviews using UM Libraries' print & online resources.

  17. Teach yourself how to find books using call numbers.

  18. Use self checkout machines in McKeldin to borrow books.

  19. Get oriented to doing research using primary source materials.

  20. Did you know the Libraries' collections include electronic books?

  21. Return items to any campus or USMAI library, except Hornbake Library.

  22. Use WorldCat to find & request materials from libraries worldwide.

  23. Need a quiet place to study in the Libraries? Ask at service desks.

  24. Put your name & number on your belongings so lost items may be returned.

Using the libraries' web site

  1. Renew your books online using "My Account."

  2. Avoid library fines; check your due dates in "My Account."

  3. Course reserves are listed under your course in ELMS/Blackboard.

  4. Research Port is the gateway to articles and more.

  5. Use the Assignment Calculator to plan and manage your research papers.

  6. Learn why citing sources is important and how to do it correctly.

  7. Use DRUM for full text of UM dissertations.

  8. Looking for campus history? Try MAC to Millennium or University AlbUM.

  9. Need help with research? Ask us via e-mail, phone, or chat.

  10. Need a book that's not in the catalog? Use Interlibrary Loan.

  11. Research Guides by Subject suggest useful online and print resources..

  12. Course related Web pages are customized for your class.

  13. The Reference Shelf has biographical, style manual, statistical info & more.

  14. Evaluate web sites before using information in your research papers.

  15. Chat online with a librarian about your research needs (Mon-Fri).
