Evaluating Online Articles: A Checklist

Please note: this page is no longer being updated by Teaching & Learning Services. For the most up-to-date resources, please visit our Research Help page or Resources for Undergraduates page

A checklist has been created to help you evaluate online articles for Authority, Publication, Purpose, Content, and Accuracy. Use it to determine whether or not a particular article should be considered as a source of information for a paper or project.

By using the checklist linked below, you will be able to evaluate an article, as well as learn why these different aspects are things that should be considered when trying to figure out whether an article is a scholarly source or not. Fill it out on the computer, print it, then turn it in to your instructor, or keep it for your own use. Alternately you may print a copy and write your answers in.
