Evaluating Books: A Checklist
Please note: this page is no longer being updated by Teaching & Learning Services. For the most up-to-date resources, please visit our Research Help page or Resources for Undergraduates page.
A checklist has been created to help you evaluate books for Authority, Purpose, Content, and Accuracy. Use it to determine whether or not a particular book should be considered as a source of information for a paper or project.
By using the checklist linked below, you will be able to evaluate a book, as well as learn why these different aspects are things that should be considered when trying to figure out whether a book is a scholarly source or not. Fill it out on the computer, print it, then turn it in to your instructor, or keep it for your own use. Alternately you may print a copy and write your answers in.
