The IDEA Committee advances the mission of the University of Maryland Libraries by providing leadership, lending support, and serving as a resource within the Libraries' community and beyond in the areas of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access.
The IDEA Committee leads with empathy and respect to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. We will foster a positive and brave space that transforms the culture of the libraries, campus, and broader communities.
We bravely move beyond simple tolerance, embrace diversity, lean into our discomfort, and encourage an environment of values-based action.
We strive to create a transformative and educational surge that infuses the library as a whole, and anticipates and responds to our users’ evolving needs. We go beyond being diverse to embodying diversity.
By embracing diversity and encouraging inclusion we collaborate more effectively on behalf of our library community and our users.
We are empathetic in our design and provision of user services and spaces, and in our problem-solving, collaboration, and inclusivity. We respect each other and our users and have a deep regard for all people and for equitable processes.
We are expert information professionals and caring stewards of the knowledge, collections, and resources entrusted to us. We are committed to equal access to information for all of our community, which is the key of a more just and healthy society.
