Using Course Reserves

The UMD Libraries will provide online access to required readings requested by instructors within the Course Reserves module in ELMS. These copyright guidelines govern this service: https://www.lib.umd.edu/access/reserves-copyright

While instructors are encouraged to make an initial assessment of whether use of the requested material qualifies as fair use, Course Reserves staff will also review requests for copyright compliance.

Posting Readings Yourself

Instructors don't need to use e-reserves in order to share readings and other course materials with students. However, there are several things you should keep in mind if you are posting readings to ELMS yourself, such as conducting a fair use analysis of PDFs made from works protected by copyright.
