JSTOR Retention Policy

JSTOR is an electronic archive of core journals in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The database includes complete runs of journals with full-text of all articles published from volume 1, issue 1. Please note, most journals have a “moving wall” (time lag) of three to five years between the most current issue published and content available in JSTOR.

The UMD Libraries subscribe to numerous journals that are currently available in JSTOR or will eventually be added to the JSTOR archival database.

Print copies of recent issues not yet in JSTOR will remain in the Current Periodicals Room of the receiving library, and will be withdrawn once available online in this database. No journals for which UMD has perpetual access online, such as JSTOR titles, will go to Severn Library.

Only under rare circumstances will the print version of a journal title in JSTOR be retained in the Libraries. Justification of such a request must be forwarded to and approved by the Associate Dean of Collection Strategies & Services or the Head of Collection Development prior to retention.
