In The Gallery

Irmgard Bartenieff was a German-born dancer, choreographer, teacher, Labanotator, dance therapist, physical therapist, dance historian, dance ethnographer, and activist. Her work in the USA began in 1936 and continued to the founding of the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS) in 1978.

We celebrate this Renaissance woman by exploring this period in her professional life in an interactive exhibit entitled "Irmgard Bartenieff: a Personal Journey through Dance," and honor TDPS Professor Karen Bradley for her work promoting Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis at UMD and LIMS. Step into an icosahedron, play with a Kinect, and see the historic materials on display.

Stay tuned as we roll out related events throughout the 2017-2018 academic year, with the first one being a one-day symposium on November 10, 2017.
