Liasons: Re-imagining Sondheim from the Piano Anthony de Mare, piano

Saturday, April 2, 2011 8:00 pm - Joseph and Alma Gildenhorn Recital Hall

Pianist Anthony de Mare presents a program entitled Liasons: Re-imagining Sondheim from the Piano at the Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts. Comprised of short solo piano interpretations of the songs of Stephen Sondheim by some of the country’s foremost contemporary composers, this landmark commissioning project includes Center-commissioned world premieres from Jake Heggie, Bernadette Speach and Kenji Bunch. These American masters interpret Sondheim in a variety of styles, including classical, pop, rock, musical theater, and jazz. Stephen Sondheim helped select the composers and has worked closely with de Mare on the nuances of each piece as the pianist prepares them for performance.
