Severn Library is UMD Libraries’ high-density shelving facility, ten-minutes away from campus on Greenbelt Road. This facility houses unique, semi-rare, and important research collections.
All items housed in the Severn Library may be requested through the catalog by anyone with borrowing privileges. Severn Library is a closed-stacks facility, and not accessible to the general public.
Patrons with borrowing privileges should request whole volumes via the catalog and chapters or articles via Interlibrary Loan.
Visitors without borrowing privileges should use the Severn Library Request Form. Visitors are limited to 10 items per patron (including multi-volume works and serials) and all items are Library Use Only.
Items are typically delivered to McKeldin Library within 1-2 business days and are available for varying loan periods, like any other hold. Journal articles through Scan & Deliver will be digitally scanned and sent to your Interlibrary Loan account. You will be notified by email when the material has arrived.
Materials from Special Collections and the Archives must be requested in advance and used in the Maryland Room in Hornbake Library. How to request SCUA Materials from Severn.
