3D Printer Training & Policies

If you are interested in learning how to 3D print using the MakerSpace's 3D printers, please watch the two tutorial videos below.

After you have watched the videos, please email us at lib-makerspace@umd.edu stating that you have completed the tutorials videos.

We will then contact you to schedule your first hands-on training session.

MakerSpace staff member must check print before starting

  • The cutoff for starting overnight prints is 30 minutes before closing (print must begin printing on printer 30 minutes before closing).
  • Must wait until the first two layers of print have finished or staff member says it's okay to leave before leaving.
  • If a print fails due to printer malfunction or some other reason out of users control, users print and filament cap will not be impacted
  • If a print fails due to user error, such as not making sure print is set up correctly in software or not enough filament on filament roll, then these failures will count towards filament usage and print cap.
  • One printer per user.
  • Computer and 3D Printer labeled "HULK" is for training purposes only and reserved for training sessions at all times.
  • You must log your print before leaving the space. Not logging print will result in your print being cancelled.
  • User is limited to 4 hrs of printing per day and cannot exceed 150grams of filament.
  • User is allowed one overnight print a week. Print must finish before the next time the MakerSpace opens and cannot exceed 300grams.

Violation of ANY policy can result in revocation of printing privileges.
