UMD's Senate Approves Policy to Enhance Equitable Access to Scholarly Publications

At its meeting on April 6, 2022, University of Maryland's Senate voted to approve a new institutional policy that will advance equitable, open access to the University's research and scholarship.

Liz Lerman Dance Exchange Collection now available online for public access, scholarly research

Scientists, construction workers, government officials, shipyard workers, and older dancers. These are just a few of the unlikely groups of everyday people that pioneering choreographer Liz Lerman incorporated into her dance work. For the first time, thanks to University of Maryland Libraries’ curators in Special Collections in Performing Arts (SCPA) and a grant from National Endowment for the Humanities, large parts of Lerman’s body of work are now available in a new online public resource.

Pop-up library provides deeper insight into STAMP gallery exhibit

This spring, explore themes of speculative futures, queerness, gender and survival in conversation with our current world with “alternative universe: visualizing queer futurisms,” an exhibit in the STAMP Gallery curated by Marjorie Antonio and it’s accompanying Pop-Up Library curated by the Art Library.

UMD Libraries appoints David Dahl Associate Dean for Digital Services and Technologies

The Libraries has appointed David Dahl as Associate Dean for Digital Services and Technologies (DST). Dahl, who has been serving as the Interim Associate Dean since May 2021 in an exemplary manner, comes to this position with nearly 14 years of extensive library systems and technology experience.

New exhibit in Hornbake Library Maryland Room

Available in the Maryland Room of Hornbake Library, this collection of material from our archives invites the University of Maryland community to explore some of the revolutionary and transformative literature in our collections created by changemakers throughout the African diaspora who challenged an oppressive status quo. Enhancements to the UMD Student Newspapers Database

The University Archives has added eight new titles to the Student Newspapers Database as well as expanded access to The DiamondBack. New titles include Ha-Koach, Expression, Hanoori, Public Asian and it's three predecessor papers 14%, 15% and Public Asian, and the La Voz Latina. Read the full update from the University Archives.

UMD Libraries ensures access to government information through regional leadership role

Visitors to the fourth floor of McKeldin Library will find an impressive collection of United States government information, everything from congressional hearings and census data to works on health and nutrition. All of these physical materials and a growing inventory of online resources are assembled as part of the University of Maryland Libraries’ leadership role as a United States regional Federal Depository Library.

Announcing the University of Maryland’s Pilot Agreement with Wiley

The University of Maryland (UMD) Libraries are pleased to announce that we have signed a one-year, cost neutral contract extension with Wiley in collaboration with the BTAA.  The agreement extends our existing Wiley Online Library Database Model contract, and includes a new Open Access (OA) option, as a pilot in collective action toward the BTAA Big Collection.
