Carrels (Open)
Study carrels #3207-3261 are open to all library users on a first-come, first-served basis. These rooms cannot be reserved.

A quiet and comfortable space for graduate students and student veterans (regardless of status) to study or work individually. Request access and swipe your UMD ID card to enter.

Maryland Room
Visit this reading room to access materials from Special Collections & University Archives. Students are welcome to study in this room without appointment. All visitors will be asked to sign in before entering the reading room and store non-permitted items in a locker outside the room.

McKeldin Alcoves
There are two alcoves in the back wing of these floors (one on the north side and one on the south side). Nestled between carrels and book stacks, these alcoves are available for quiet study on a first come, first served basis. Each alcove contains 2 semi-enclosed study pods.

Sets of semi-enclosed pods for quiet individual study, located directly outside the elevators.

McKeldin Elevator Lobbies (Front Wing)
Cozy spaces directly outside the main elevators to quietly relax or for individual study. They contain comfy chairs, some small tables, and two computers.

Reading Room
This light-filled, classic-style reading room offers a quiet space for students and researchers. Wooden tables are equipped with individual task lamps, outlets, and USB ports. There is also soft seating for casual reading or quiet conversation. No food or drinks allowed (except water).

STEM Computer Area
Find it on the Floor Map - look for the yellow dots!
Near the service desk at STEM you'll find PC and MAC computers, along with printer/copiers and scanners. You can print a paper quickly on the way to class or stay a while to work on an assignment. There are no time limits. Learn how to login, what software they have, and how many are currently available.
