Collection Strategies and Services
As the Social Justice and Labor Archivist, my job is to collect and preserve a wide range of original documents, photographs, audiovisual materials, and artifacts related to social justice movements. The goal is to document all aspects of the struggle for social justice, including racial, gender, LGBTQ, and differently abled equality, immigrants’ rights, religious freedom, labor organizing and the defense of democracy. Our collections include the records of the AFL-CIO, the bakery and carpenters’ unions, Pride@Work, and Labors’ Heritage. A large part of my job is making this unique material available to the UMD community and general public for research.
