Big Ten Academic Alliance Liaison Institute

BTAA Liaison Institute is an opportunity for librarians with liaison or subject responsibilities to meet up, talk about best practices, learn new skills, celebrate victories, and share experiences.

2022

The 2022 Summer Session was a virtual event that explored the theme Our New Normal and featured lightening talks from the BTAA Liaison community.

In this session, we provided a nuanced exploration of the ways COVID-19 disrupted, challenged, and changed our community and practice.

2018

In 2018, the Big Ten Academic Alliance Public Services Directors identified a common vision to develop a sustainable and accessible peer network of liaison librarians who can share their expertise across the Big Ten Academic Alliance Libraries.

They put together a planning committee to develop a first program for liaison librarians across the Big Ten Academic Alliance. Founding committee members include Abe Wheeler, Michigan State University, Cynthia Preston and Deidra Herring, The Ohio State University; Rebecca Miller, Penn State, and Yelena Luckert, University of Maryland (Chair).

The first Big Ten Academic Alliance Liaison Institute took place at the University of Maryland, College Park, on June 21, 2019 as a full day program. This location was chosen due the simultaneous occurrence of the American Library Association Conference 2019 in Washington, DC. This first program had 43 individuals in attendance, representing nearly all Big Ten Academic Alliance institutions.

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the next Liaison Institute was scheduled virtually for early 2021. The Big Ten Academic Alliance Liaison Institute Winter Series 2021 boasted nearly 500 registrants over five events with overwhelmingly positive evaluations.

Our 2022 Summer Session will be held virtually as a half-day event featuring presentations.
