The John & Stella Graves Makerspace provides a variety of hands-on instructional services to help UMD students, faculty, and staff members learn how to use different equipment and create amazing things.

Step 1 : Book an instruction session
Have the Makerspace staff show you the ropes! Learn how to use our 3D printers, so you can print objects yourself. ALL patrons must receive training if they wish to reserve time on a 3D printer.
Step 2 : Schedule project time
Once you have completed instruction, you are all set to use a 3D printer all on your own! Schedule project time (12hrs. maximum a day) to work on your personal projects using our 3D printers during the Makerspace's open hours.
Step 1 : Book an instruction session
Our new Glowforge laser cutter gives you the ability to cut, engrave and score. If you're new to it, book an instruction session with Makerspace staff to learn some simple best practices before embarking on a project. ALL patrons must receive training if they wish to reserve time on the Glowforge laser cutter.
Step 2 : Schedule Project Time
If you have already been given instruction by Makerspace staff, just complete our project request form. We will approve your project, and schedule a time for you to use the equipment.

Our Makerspace technicians will show you how to navigate the vinyl cutting software and machine, so you can learn how to cut your designs yourself. Book an instruction session with a technician to familiarize yourself with the best practices before beginning your project. ALL patrons must receive training if they wish to reserve time on the vinyl cutter.
Step 2 : Schedule project time
If you have completed an instruction session with a Makerspace technician, you are all set to use the vinyl cutter on your own! Schedule project time during our open hours to work on your personal projects.
We strongly encourage the use of the Sandbox for Research and Instruction.
