The University of Maryland (UMD) Libraries are pleased to announce that we have signed a cost neutral, three-year “Read and Publish” agreement with Cambridge University Press (CUP) in collaboration with our consortial partner NERL (formerly known as NorthEast Regional Libraries). This is the first Read and Publish deal for the Libraries, and became effective 1 January 2022. Under this CUP Read and Publish agreement, UMD authors may publish articles as gold Open Access without paying an Article Processing Charge (APC).

The University of Maryland Libraries has adopted a set of core licensing principles to guide negotiations with scholarly publishers and other vendors. The principles support the mission, vision, and values of the University and of the Libraries.

Section body - TOME@UMD, a two-year pilot program of the national TOME initiative, is now accepting applications for three grants of up to $15,000 each that will sponsor the publication of open access, digital monographs by UMD faculty members. With a deadline of November 15, 2021, the process calls for applications from eligible faculty in all disciplines, but with preference given for those in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. 

The partnership offers UMD researchers a new portal to manage projects and collaborate across institutions.

The Big Ten Academic Alliance and the University of Michigan Press have signed a three-year agreement that provides multi-year support for Fund to Mission from all fifteen member libraries. Fund to Mission is the Press’s open access monograph model that aligns with its mission and commitment to equity, justice, inclusion, and accessibility. The model demonstrates a return to the origins of the university press movement and moves toward a more open, sustainable infrastructure for the humanities and social sciences.

The Big Ten Academic Alliance and the Open Library of Humanities (OLH) have signed a three-year collective agreement that provides multi-year support for OLH from all of the BTAA’s fifteen member libraries.

The University of Maryland (UMD) Libraries is pleased to announce that it has become the institutional home of SocArXiv, an interdisciplinary, open access repository of scholarship.

The University of Maryland, as part of the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), has entered into a three-year collective action agreement with the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). This agreement offers support for DOAJ, an online directory that indexes and promotes quality, peer-reviewed open access journals from around the world, providing a community-driven service to play an essential role in the creation of a sustainable model for the future of scholarly publishing.

MIT Press and the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) have entered a three-year collective action agreement that provides Direct to Open (D2O) access for all fifteen BTAA member libraries. An innovative, sustainable framework for open access monographs, D2O moves professional and scholarly books from a solely market-based, purchase model to a collaborative, library-supported open access model.
