My Account at the University Libraries

What is ‘My Account’?

My Account is a service available to current University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) registered users, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, Friends of the Libraries, and Special Borrowers.

My Account provides access to your personal library account, where you can:

  • See which items you have checked out and when they are due.
  • Renew books online and view your list of requests from other USMAI libraries.
  • Save or e-mail search results from the USMAI Catalog.

  • Start at the Libraries’ homepage.
  • Click on the gold My Account button at the top of the page (between Hours and Ask Us!).
  • Select University of Maryland, College Park as your campus affiliation.
  • Enter your UM directory ID and password. Click log in.
  • Important: Verify your contact information.  To update, follow the directions at Updating Your Contact Information.
  • After logging in to My Account, under the heading Activities, click on Items borrowed/renewals.
  • The books that you have borrowed are sorted by due date.
  • To renew a book, click in the ☑ box to the left of the title, then click “renew selected.”
  • To renew multiple items, click on the yellow buttons “renew all” or click the boxes to the left of the desired items and then click “renew selected.”
  • Review your list of borrowed items to verify the new due dates.
  • After logging in to My Account, under the heading Activities, click on Requests.
  • If your material is ready to be picked up, it will say “on hold until: (date)” in the status field.
  • You may cancel a request if an item is still “in process.” Click on the number beside the title and click the delete button on the ensuing page.
  • From WorldCat UMD's results screen, click on the underlined title of the item in order to view the full record.
  • To temporarily save an items record, click the Save button at the top-right of the record information.
    • Items will be saved in the starred My Items list at the top-right of the WorldCat UMD results screen.
    • NOTE: These items will be deleted once you log off of the computer. If you want to save them in order to use them later, you can email the selected items from the My Items list by clicking the Email button in the lists' viewing window.
  • You can also save an item's record to your USMAI account by accessing the record in the Classic Catalog (make sure you are logged in to My Account).
    • Conduct your search in the Classic Catalog. Click on the underlined title of the item in order to view the full record.
    • Click the underlined add to my saved items link in the top-left of the screen and then click send on the next page.
    • You can then view your saved items by clicking the "saved items" hyperlink in the upper-right of the My Account screen.
  • On the results screen, click on the underlined title of the item in order to view the full view of the record.
  • On the Full View of Record screen, click on Email, located at the top, just above the record information.
  • Enter your e-mail address.
  • Check that the rest of the information in the form is correct.
  • Click Email record.

WorldCat allows you to export citations from an item record. In order to do this,

  • On the results screen, click on the underlined title of the item in order to view the full view of the record.
  • On the Full View of Record screen, click on Cite. This will allow you to either copy a citation, or export a citation.
  • To copy a citation, use the drop-down menu to choose the citation format you need and then copy the citation information that appears.
  • To export a citation, choose one of the export locations found beneath the Export a Citation heading.
  • For privacy reasons, remember to log out of all your accounts.
  • To log out of your My Account, click on My Account on the Libraries’ home page and then end session (upper right) before walking away from a public computer. A warning message will appear: To end your session completely please close your browser, then click okay.
