WorldCat UMD (*Recommended for most searches)

More in one place.

Eliminate the need for multiple searches. WorldCat UMD includes almost everything the classic catalog has and more, including journal articles and e-books.

Find items in more than 10,000 libraries. Remember, we can get an item for you even if we don't own it.

Classic Catalog

A lot, but not EVERYTHING.

Some formats (in particular, electronic books) are not being added to the "classic catalog." If you use the "classic catalog" you may be missing out on discovering some of our recent additions to WorldCat UMD.

It does include:

Books and other items at UMD and other universities in Maryland.

Some items are unique to the University of Maryland, such as special collections.

New Experimental Search Tool

Search is a new, experimental discovery interface connecting library patrons to many of the University Libraries’ research tools including WorldCat UMD, Database Finder, and Research Guides. You can even search the library website with it. Search provides library patrons an intuitive way to find the information they need while helping them understand the different research tools the library offers. Results from the different library tools are displayed in separate boxes, helping you better understand and navigate the search results.

There are two different versions of Search you can test:

  • Version 1 uses WorldCat UMD to provide search results for our “Books and More” and “Articles” results.
  • Version 2 replaces WorldCat UMD with EBSCO Discovery Service for the “Books and More” and “Articles” results.

This release of Search is a beta release open to the library community to experiment with the tool and provide general feedback. You can also use the feedback form to express an interest in participating in user testing and focus groups in the future.
We also invite you to use our comparison form to give feedback comparing the two options. This form asks you to compare a search run in both systems and evaluate the results and your search experience.
