Terrapin Learning Commons

Collage of four images: the top two photos show study spaces with long tables holding desktop computers and power outlets with empty desk space for devices. Some students sit in desk chairs working at the tables. One bottom photo shows multiple large format poster printers in a row. The final photo shows an outdoor study space with large bulky columns, a metal railing, and chairs clustered around circular tables.

The Terrapin Learning Commons (TLC) encompasses most of the public space on the 2nd floor of McKeldin Library. Overseen by the TLC Tech Desk, the space serves as an ideal location for activities that are noisier, more energetic, or more collaborative, in contrast to the quieter and more reserved areas of McKeldin.

The Terrapin Learning Commons features:

  • Mac and Windows desktop computers
  • Space and outlets for working on a personal device
  • Outdoor balcony study space on the Portico
  • A variety of comfortable furniture
  • Black-and-white and color printers
  • Bookable group study roomsspecialty meeting rooms, and other special purpose spaces
  • Easy access to technology and equipment (such as laptops, chargers, tablets, cameras, and more) loaned from the TLC Tech Desk
  • Convenient services and helpful staff located at the TLC Tech Desk
